Positioned in
the centre of Emsworth this Gales pub the most
imposing in Emsworth overlooking the square
undertook extensive refurbishment in the summer of
1996 as it now incorporates a previous shop next
door. A pleasant walled garden area to
the rear with seating for 60+. Owned by Gales
(Fullers) and run by Mrs J C Murray. Winner of
the George Gale & Co Ltd Cellar craft award 2002.
Good pub grub from Linda's Galley. Excellent
bar staff. Always a friendly welcome. Famous
for our weekend night-life and party occasions. At
lunch time The Ship is quiet and ideal for a bite to
eat. It is very different in the evenings,
especially at the weekends , when it is "heaving"
with a much younger cliental having a good time.

A good 'locals' pub. Everything a
traditional English pub should be. Owned by Gales
(Fullers) and consistently serving excellent quality
real ales from their ever expanding range. Weekly
guest ales from a very wide range of breweries,
cask marque award,
CAMRA approved and Pub of the Year 2005.
Also good quality home cooked food with a
popular curry night on a Tuesday and International
night on Thursday and a constantly changing menu at
lunch time (12.00 - 2.00pm). A loyal band of
regulars provide interesting and often intelligent
conversation. This pub is situated adjacent to a
large car park and has a small grassed back
garden. The small cosy interior with real
fires in winter and no piped music makes The Coal
Exchange the most "traditional of Emsworth's pubs.

'The Sausage Pub!'
Originally a brewery but still serving plenty or
Real Ale. The legendary sawdust still frequents the
floors and open fires roar! A tiny traditional
English Pub renowned for serving dozens of varieties
of sausages plus other dishes including vegetarian.
Normally very busy and frequented by some
"interesting" locals. Emsworth's only Young's pub.
The Sussex has long been a part of the food
culture of Emsworth. During that time it has seen
the village of Emsworth grow from being a major
oyster and fishing centre on the South Coast to what
it is now, a picturesque village and harbour with a
reputation for being a major food destination,
celebrated each September with its famous Food
Festival.
While still managing to maintain
the traditional values of a proper Inn with its real
ales, open fires and saw dust covered floors, The
Sussex has recently refurbished its two dining
rooms.
The menus concentrate on fresh, local
produce as well as offering a range of award winning
sausages, all cooked and presented with the emphasis
on flavour and simplicity.
